Kripa Grace Yoga Canada
A Branch of Kripa Foundation Iyengar Yoga of India and Founder Fr Joe Pereira In the Yoga Lineage of Fr Joe Pereira, BKS Iyengar and Sri T Krishnamacharya
It is said that those caught in addiction live in a world with a population of One- just him, her, or them-self. This causes a void and a sense of Loneliness. Since Love is an I-Thou Relationship and since this is not available or perceived as such, one caught in addiction seeks a substitute. This substitute can be alcohol, drugs, sex, gambling, eating disorders, gaming, etc. While practicing the triple discipline of Yoga, starting with the Body, Breath and then Meditation, and the support of AA or another recovery program, the recovering person journeys from the periphery of the body to the centre-self.

February 5th to May 25th, 2023
Break April 17th to 29th
An Online Advanced Yoga Teacher Training program for Certified Yoga Teachers in the KFIY model of Yoga for Addiction support.

Leigh Anne Milne, Teacher Trainer, Director Canada
The philosophy of KFIY is what Herbert Benson calls Remembered Wellness, the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali calls Samapattibhyam, and what is known in the Salutogenesis model as Coherence. Through addiction support and yoga, Faith is restored. Coherence being faith in a predictable inner and outer world experience. When this has been traumatically disturbed or was never felt, trust, faith, love are unknown and the probability of seeking relief from fear and uncertainty through substance use is greater.
The Eleventh step of AA states, seek “through prayer and meditation to improve one’s conscious contact with a higher understanding and relationship to the God of one’s understanding.” In Yoga, Meditation is the seventh limb called Dhyana, leading to the eighth limb of Samadhi and self-realization. Through yoga practice, all eight limbs of Patanjali’s Astanga yoga are realized.
In the Kripa Canada yoga teacher training program the aim is to prepare certified yoga teachers who have familiarity with Fr Joe Pereira’s teaching (workshop recordings may be rented here) and service to develop a specialised competency in delivering this model of care. Embracing the Biopsychosocial-spiritual we enter into this process via the somatic with yoga asana using a trauma-informed approach.

Panjim, Goa Special Needs Class
Those skilled in the KFIY model do so with the intention to serve those identified in your communities as in need of support which can be provided through yoga. This may be one to one with individuals, in small groups in clinical or studio settings, and institutional care settings.
Thank you for your interest in this specialty branch of yoga. It is an act of service that brings with it a sense of purpose. Yoga in Action as described in the Bhagavad Gita as Karma Yoga. On graduation you’ll join the KFIY global family of yoga teachers and be certified to take this work into your community.

About
Fr Joe
With the blessing of Mother Teresa Fr. Joe founded “Kripa Foundation” for the treatment of addiction and HIV/AIDS in 1981 at Bandra (Mumbai).
Fr. Joe began the practice of Yoga with B.K.S. Iyengar in 1968 and by 1971 he was a certified Iyengar Yoga instructor. Greatly influenced by both his guides he calls Mother Teresa his left hand and Guruji BKS Iyengar his right. Kripa is now one of the largest NGOs in the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India and has over 100 treatment facilities across India.
Open-minded in his beliefs, he bridges spiritual paths Inviting the student to look deeply within through yoga. The government of India recognized Fr Joe by awarding him the Shri Padma in recognition of his distinguished contribution to Indian society.
Father Joe teaches KFIY internationally and from his Goa, India centre.
Leigh Anne Milne is a Massage Therapist, Yoga Therapist, Iyengar Yoga Teacher, and Kripa Foundation Iyengar Yoga Senior teacher. Leigh has found the combined knowledge of yoga, health care, and the Kripa model of compassion to be a rich foundation for her holistic practice. She believes the Self desires a return to wellness and seeks a supportive environment. Leigh Anne practices and teaches yoga internationally and from her home on Salt Spring Island.
Leigh has published articles on both massage therapy and yoga — including contributing a section to Suza Francina’s book “The New Yoga for Healthy Aging” — and taught clinics in neuromuscular therapy and anatomy at massage therapy schools in Canada and Hawaii.
Leigh Anne is always happy to hear from you!
